Meta limits internal AI use to cut costs
Meta sent a memo to 6,000 employees about new rules for using AI. They will limit how much AI employees can use and track spending. The company's internal AI use is growing fast, and costs could reach tens of billions this year.
Meta will use a platform called AI Gateway to manage AI usage. Teams can check their data, and the system will alert them if token spending spikes. Meta stopped a ranking that encouraged employees to use more AI.
This cost-cutting trend is spreading across US companies. Some employees even try to use as many AI tokens as possible just to meet goals, a practice called "Tokenmaxxing." Meta will soon limit external AI tools and push its own coding assistant, MetaCode. The company plans to spend $600 billion on AI infrastructure by 2028.
