Meta may limit how much AI employees can use
Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram at Meta, said in a recent interview that the company might need to limit how many tokens employees use for AI in a year or two. Tokens are the computing costs for AI models to process and reply, and the topic is now hot in tech. Mosseri compared token budgets to payroll or operating costs, saying companies must manage them like GPU or CPU resources. Meta has already shut down an internal token leaderboard as costs could hit billions by 2026. Uber also ran out of its 2026 AI coding budget early, and Microsoft canceled some Claude Code licenses to push its own Copilot CLI. Mosseri thinks future token limits may depend on whether engineers can bring positive returns, but in the long run, prices may drop as AI model makers compete.
