Meta Releases New AI Model, Urges US to Ease Open-Source AI Policy Barriers
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently published a long post calling on the US to reduce policy barriers for open-source AI to better compete with Chinese rivals. He also announced the release of Muse Glimmer, a new open-weight model that is smaller and can run agent tasks on a Mac or PC with a single GPU, targeting personal device AI. Meta plans to open the weights of its most advanced model, Muse Spark 1.2, developed by its superintelligence team to catch up in the AI race. Zuckerberg stressed that restricting access to foreign open-source models won't solve the problem and that the US needs to review data use and distillation policies. He also announced a $1 billion fund to support communities and address concerns about data center construction.
