Meta's Muse Spark AI model delays API release multiple times
According to the Wall Street Journal, Meta's AI model Muse Spark is facing development delays, pushing back its API release for developers multiple times. This model is the first product from Meta's new superintelligence lab, led by Alexandr Wang who joined Meta in June 2025.
Muse Spark is a key model after Meta shifted from open-source to closed-source approach. Internal tests show it can compete with models from OpenAI and Anthropic, and clearly beats xAI's Grok in most tests. But except for a few third-party reviewers, developers still can't test it themselves.
Insiders say Meta planned to launch the API alongside Muse Spark in April, but delays happened due to bugs found in tests and the need to expand infrastructure. The release was pushed from April to May, and then to June, which is quite different from Meta's earlier "coming soon" statement.
