Meta uses AI to speed up app development, new apps on the way

Meta is using AI to speed up app development. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in an earnings call that several new apps are in the works, including ones for Marketplace sellers, Facebook groups, games, Instagram photos, and an AI bedtime story experiment.

Meta believes large language models can significantly boost software development efficiency, helping teams launch products and test new ideas faster. Zuckerberg said AI is helping teams speed up development, making it easier to launch new apps, so they're trying more ideas. CFO Susan Li noted that LLMs are becoming more effective at improving content ranking and recommendations.

Previous attempts to launch new apps outside Meta's core platforms mostly failed, including Slingshot and Rooms. Now with AI, Meta hopes to change that, while investors focus on AI spending and enterprise business.
