Microsoft CEO Warns: Companies Using AI May Face 'Double Payment' Risk
The debate over AI risks in Silicon Valley is heating up, focusing on how big AI labs might use their models to access customer secrets. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says companies pay twice when using AI: once in token fees, and again by unknowingly giving away valuable data and knowledge.
Nadella explains that to make models work better for them, businesses have to share their secrets step by step, including user prompts, tool usage, and corrections. This experience is hard for competitors to copy, but companies are giving it away for free.
He argues that since AI companies can use public data to train models, businesses should also be allowed to 'distill' those models to understand how they work. Nadella calls out the double standard: using public data but blocking others from studying their models. He's especially wary of terms that let AI providers learn from customer data.
