Microsoft GitHub Copilot Launches Officially, Free for Students and Open Source Maintainers
Many developers spend a lot of time on syntax and logic when writing code. Now there's a new tool. Microsoft GitHub's AI coding tool Copilot has officially launched after nearly a year of testing, providing automatic code suggestions in mainstream IDEs.
Copilot is priced at $10 per month or $100 per year, free for students and maintainers of popular open-source projects. It supports multiple languages like Python and JavaScript, generating complete functions based on context.
Over the past 12 months, over 1.2 million developers tried the preview version, with nearly 40% of code in enabled files written by Copilot. All developers can now try it for free for 60 days; non-subscribed users will lose access on August 22.
