Microsoft's New Tech Makes Copilot 4x Faster While Cutting Token Use by 30%
In most companies, project info is scattered across emails, Teams meeting notes, and technical docs. AI agents used to search through these pieces one by one, which led to slow responses and high computing costs.
Microsoft has launched a new Work IQ knowledge engine built on SharePoint for AI agents like Copilot. Without upgrading the underlying model, it turns scattered info into a structured knowledge base that agents can pull from directly. This makes responses 4x faster and cuts token use by about 30%.
The feature covers cross-document Q&A, meeting summaries, project status updates, and internal process searches. It's now rolling out to Frontier Preview tenants, only for pay-as-you-go users. Microsoft also plans to extend it to Copilot Studio custom agents and add auto-maintenance for the knowledge base.
