Minecraft creator changes mind, now embraces AI coding
Markus Persson, creator of Minecraft, once strongly opposed AI coding, calling it a 'terrible idea'. But his attitude changed completely within months, and he finally admitted he was wrong and started using AI tools for development.
Persson initially believed coding was about 'logic' not 'typing', and accused AI coding hype of being deliberately inflated. But on July 21, he began to soften, saying he had trouble hiring good programmers and that firing a chatbot wouldn't make him feel too guilty. He then tried Claude and joked whether he could still laugh at 'vibe coding'.
On August 10, Persson shared a chat log and admitted 'maybe it's time to say I was wrong'. He explained the change was because he couldn't hire people and wanted to give the potentially amazing tech a chance. He remains cautious, saying he doesn't want to fully embrace AI because he wants to stay a developer, not become middle management.
