MiniCPM5-1B: A tiny AI model that beats bigger ones, now open-source

A Chinese team, including Mianbi Intelligence, Tsinghua University, and OpenBMB, has released a new AI model called MiniCPM5-1B. It's a small model with just 1 billion parameters, but it actually beats many 2-billion-parameter models in performance. The model is so light that after compression, it takes only 0.5GB of space, meaning it can run on a phone or in a browser. The team has made everything open-source, including the model, training data, and setup guides.
