Mistral AI Launches Public Preview of Trillion-Parameter Mistral Large 4

French company Mistral AI has launched the public preview of Mistral Large 4, codenamed le Chonk. Users can try the preview API on Mistral Studio now, and the model weights will be open for download at the end of this month.

The model has 1 trillion total parameters and 49 billion active ones, and it is natively multimodal. Mistral is running red-team tests with cybersecurity agencies and regulators. The test version loosens some content safety rules and boosts cyber attack and defense skills.

Mistral says it matches top open-source models worldwide and beats all open-weight models from Europe and the US. It leads all open models in cybersecurity, finance and legal work, and even tops some closed frontier models in visual grounding.

It was trained from scratch on 3,800 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell GPUs in Mistral's own data center in Europe. Its data covers over 160 languages, including all EU official languages. It costs $1.36 per million input tokens and $4.18 per million output tokens.
