Moonshot AI launches open-source Kimi K3 with 2.8 trillion parameters

On July 17, Moonshot AI officially released its new large model Kimi K3, with 2.8 trillion parameters, making it the largest open-source model to date. It natively supports visual understanding and has a 1 million token context window. On launch day, the company's annual recurring revenue hit its biggest single-day jump ever.

Kimi K3 outperformed Claude Fable 5 and GPT-5.6 Sol in the Frontend Code Arena test for front-end code generation. Pricing is set at 2 yuan per 1 million tokens (cache hit) or 20 yuan (cache miss) for input, and 100 yuan for output. President Zhang Yutong said the word "taste" in global developer feedback resonated most with the team, emphasizing that open-source models shouldn't just compete on price.
