Musk asks AI team to scan rare books without destroying them
A report says AI companies are buying rare books, cutting off their spines to scan them fast, and then throwing away the paper copies. Anthropic, which is facing a lawsuit over copyright, spent millions on books to train its Claude AI model and then destroyed them. Musk saw the story and told his SpaceX AI team to scan rare books without damaging them. Normal scanning uses cameras or flatbed scanners that don't harm the book. But the fast method, which rips books apart and scans each page quickly, is cheaper and has led to millions of books being destroyed.
