Musk calls for AI labs to work together on safety
Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, said in an interview with The Economist that the AI industry faces urgent risks and called on all major AI developers to work together to prevent potential dangers. He noted that cutting-edge AI models are improving quickly, so labs should review safety before releasing new models and report risks to governments in Washington and Beijing.
Musk said this cooperation shouldn't only include U.S. companies—Chinese AI developers should join too. He also said for the good of the world, he'd put aside personal grudges with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman to talk if needed. Musk opposed the U.S. move to ban Chinese AI models, saying it won't slow China's AI progress, and he believes China can solve chip shortages through its own R&D.
