Musk says Grok Bot will pick the best backend model for each task
Grok Bot previously ran only on the Grok models developed in-house by SpaceXAI. As a "resident AI coworker," it can log into frequently used websites and apps on a cloud computer, carry out multi-step tasks, and only return for approval when human judgment is needed. Elon Musk announced on X that Grok Bot will no longer be limited to in-house models. It will automatically choose the "best backend model" for each task, calling on leading APIs such as Claude Opus 5.5, Midjourney, and Suno, based on which one is most likely to give users the best results. On the technical side, Grok Bot is shifting from relying mainly on its own models to a task-driven multi-model setup, bringing in stronger third-party models for text, image, and audio work. The product launched in beta in August 2026. Each Grok Bot has a name, assigned duties, and continuously growing context, and its cloud setup keeps background and scheduled tasks running even after devices go offline.
