Musk: xAI data center power to hit 10GW by 2027
Elon Musk, the world's richest man, told SpaceX staff that his AI company xAI aims to grow its data center power capacity to 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027, about seven times the current level. This is based on its U.S. facilities in Memphis and Southaven, which together use 1.4GW. Musk said xAI has already built the world's strongest AI training cluster and plans to expand it tenfold by next year. He thinks if each watt is worth $30 to $50, xAI could earn $300 to $500 billion a year once all that power is online. Data center power capacity isn't the same as actual computing power, since cooling and other systems use electricity too. This big expansion shows xAI's huge bet on computing power to support its AI work.
