NASA Chief Suggests Moving Data Centers to Space
NASA's chief, Jared Isaacman, recently suggested moving data centers into Earth's orbit, powered by solar energy, to ease public backlash in the U.S. over their expansion. He believes this would help America win both the space race and the AI race.
Currently, data center construction is facing opposition from residents who worry about rising costs and environmental harm. Politicians from both parties are distancing themselves from such projects, and some swing-state candidates are pushing for stricter policies.
The plan would require huge solar panels, covering tens of thousands of square meters, to harness continuous sunlight in orbit. This idea is still at the proposal stage, and its feasibility and cost-effectiveness remain to be seen.
