Nearly 200 Protesters Gather at Anthropic Headquarters Over Fears of AI Self-Iteration Threatening Human Survival
On March 26 local time, about 200 demonstrators from the 'Stop the AI Race' organization gathered outside Anthropic's headquarters in San Francisco, USA, demanding the company pause AI research and development. Participants included former tech employees, researchers, and members of grassroots organizations like Pause AI and QuitGPT.
Organizer Michael Trazzi stated that building AI capable of automatic AI research and self-iteration could pose a danger to humanity, even leading to extinction, and that the CEOs of these labs also acknowledge the risks are real. The protesters then went to OpenAI and xAI headquarters to continue their demonstration.
Guido Reichstadt, who previously fasted for 30 days outside Anthropic, also joined the protest. He believes these companies have no right to conduct AI research that endangers human lives and should stop the global AI race.
