Neuralink lets you move a wheelchair with your mind
Elon Musk's brain tech company Neuralink just showed how its implant can let a person control an electric wheelchair just by thinking. On July 23, they shared a video where a user moves the wheelchair forward, backward, and turns it with their mind, no hands needed.
The implant has over 1,000 tiny electrodes on wires thinner than hair, placed in the brain's motor cortex by a robot. These electrodes pick up brain signals, and a machine learning model turns them into cursor movements to drive the chair.
A camera on the wheelchair gives live video to the user. A custom program shows the view ahead: move the cursor up to go forward, down to reverse, left or right to steer. The further the cursor goes, the faster the chair moves. This gives paralyzed people a more natural way to get around.
