Nvidia and Perplexity Launch Local AI Agent Platform Portable Computer

Nvidia announced that Perplexity's local agent platform, Portable Computer, is now available to Windows RTX PC users. It is the local version of Perplexity Computer, able to plan and execute multi-step tasks while keeping sensitive data on the device.

The product uses Nvidia GPU acceleration and comes with a fine-tuned Qwen 3.8 27B model optimized for RTX GPUs. Users can enable it without setting up a complex local AI environment. Tasks completed locally do not use Perplexity Computer service credits, and users can also authorize cloud models for advanced reasoning.

It offers connectors for Outlook, OneDrive, Word, Google Drive, Gmail, Slack, and GitHub, supporting scenarios in engineering, finance, and startups. The platform works on Nvidia GeForce RTX and RTX PRO devices with 24GB or more VRAM. Support for DGX Station workstations is expected soon.
