Nvidia plans to back OpenAI with $250 billion for the world's biggest data center
According to the Wall Street Journal, Nvidia is in talks with OpenAI to provide about $250 billion in financing guarantees. This money would help OpenAI lease a 10GW data center project from SoftBank's energy company in southern Ohio, USA.
The total investment for this project is expected to exceed $500 billion, making it the world's largest planned data center if chip and other costs are included. Insiders say the project's power is controlled by the US government, with funding support from Japan.
OpenAI has been in deep negotiations for weeks and shows strong interest. Other US companies like Anthropic, Microsoft, and Google have also discussed the project with US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Neither Nvidia nor OpenAI has commented yet.
