OpenAI brings back 5-hour limit for ChatGPT Plus
OpenAI has brought back the 5-hour rolling usage limit for standard ChatGPT Plus users as of August 25, applying to Codex and ChatGPT Work. The limit was removed on July 13 to promote the efficient GPT-5.6 Sol model and celebrate reaching 1 million active users. Engineering lead Thibault Sottiaux confirmed the move to spread out computing load and protect new or light users from exhausting their weekly quota in one go. Higher-tier Pro users (at $100 and $200 per month) and Enterprise/Edu accounts are unaffected. Weekly limits have been reset for all affected accounts, with the next reset scheduled for September 1.
