OpenAI Buys Many Apple Macs to Train AI Agents That Use Computers
OpenAI has bought tens of thousands of Apple Mac mini and Mac Studio computers in recent months. They use these to train AI systems that can operate computers. These Macs have lots of memory, which helps AI learn to click buttons, open apps, and do tasks on a real computer. Apple's special memory design lets the CPU and GPU share one big memory pool, which AI companies like. Because of this, some Mac models are sold out for months. Apple's Mac business made $9.4 billion in the last quarter, up 29% from last year. Tim Cook, Apple's CEO, said people use Mac mini to run AI agents and Mac Studio clusters. Apple also just launched new Mac mini and Mac Studio with M6 and M5 Pro chips. Other AI companies like Anthropic also rent Mac minis from AWS. Apple's chips are becoming popular in the AI field.
