OpenAI CEO heads to Washington for AI policy talks
Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, is heading to Washington to meet with the U.S. Treasury Secretary, Commerce Secretary, and senators to discuss AI policy. The trip aims to show off OpenAI's latest AI model and address concerns about it potentially launching cyberattacks on its own. No AI has ever done that without human control before. Altman will also talk about a U.S. government order from June that requires AI companies to submit new models for safety testing before release. That order expires on August 1. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google recently teamed up to propose changes to the rules, but they haven't commented publicly.
