OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Says Two Years of College Is Enough
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently said college might not need to be four years, and two years could be just right. He believes he learned a lot during his two years at Stanford and that more time might not add much value. Altman dropped out of Stanford in 2005 to co-found location-sharing app Loopt, which became one of Y Combinator's first incubated projects.
At a tech intern summit, Altman said staying two more years might not have been worth much, and he knows many people who skipped college and did great. He also advised that starting with several projects is fine because you don't know which will succeed, but once you find the most promising one, you should drop others and focus. Similar views are common in tech, with PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel also supporting young people skipping traditional college.
