OpenAI CEO warns AI might make us lose our thinking skills
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said on a podcast that one underrated risk of AI is people relying on it too much for thinking, which could make their own thinking skills weaker. He asked how we can use these tools while still keeping our brains sharp.
A researcher from MIT found that people who used AI to write essays actually did worse over time than those using Google or no tools at all. Another scientist called this 'chronic substitution,' saying that always letting AI do the thinking might hurt our brain's ability to fight off diseases like dementia.
As AI gets better, it's now doing complex jobs like reviewing documents, analyzing research, customer support, and coding. Altman isn't the only one worried - the CEO of French AI company Mistral also warned about 'deskilling.' But Altman is still positive about AI's future, describing a 'magical' world where personal AI assistants work 24/7.
