OpenAI fixes Codex usage calculation issues and resets subscription quotas

OpenAI's Codex and ChatGPT team lead Thibault Sottiaux responded to user feedback about fast usage consumption on social media and announced a quota reset for all Codex subscribers the next day. The team identified three issues affecting usage calculation: efficiency problems with image handling and context compaction in long sessions, high usage at the 95th percentile and above in computer history, and extra consumption from the function that generates conversation titles. OpenAI has formed a dedicated team to investigate and plans to roll out fixes the next day, with a new efficiency improvement approach to be developed next week. All subscribers will have their quotas reset around 2:00 PM Pacific Time the next day.
