OpenAI Has Locked Over 8GW of Computing Power, Targets 10GW by 2025
OpenAI officially announced that it has locked in a total computing power of over 8GW, which is very close to its target of 10GW set for early 2025, and plans to reach 30GW by 2030.
Building a 1GW-scale AI data center usually costs tens of billions of dollars. The total investment for a 30GW data center is at least equivalent to OpenAI's current valuation (over 800 billion USD), or even twice that amount. Although OpenAI mainly acquires computing power through leasing, annual cloud service expenses remain a heavy burden for the company.
