OpenAI Launches $100 Codex Subscription Plan to Fill Pricing Gap for High-Intensity Development
OpenAI recently launched a new $100/month subscription plan (about 684 yuan), filling the gap between the $20 and $200 tiers in its original pricing system to meet high-frequency users' needs. Previously, OpenAI's subscriptions included a free version (with ads), an $8 Go plan (with ads), a $20 Plus plan (ad-free), and a $200 Pro plan (ad-free).
Like the $20 Plus plan, the new tier targets users programming with Codex but offers about 5x the usage quota, enhancing support for high-intensity development scenarios. It competes with Anthropic's $100 Claude subscription; OpenAI claims its Codex provides more coding capacity at the same cost, with the advantage being more obvious in continuous coding.
Until May 31, the new plan will have a temporary higher usage limit. Currently, Codex has over 3 million weekly active users, growing about 5x in the past three months, with monthly usage increasing by over 70%.
