OpenAI Launches Codex Plugins Service to Simplify Developer Workflows and Support Team Collaboration
OpenAI recently announced the launch of plugin services for Codex, providing an installable feature package platform aimed at simplifying developer workflows. Codex plugins are collections of installable workflows, allowing developers to package skills, application integrations, and MCP server configurations to quickly share unified development setups.
It's important to note that skills and plugins are distinct tools: skills are ideal for iteration in a single codebase or workflow, leaning toward private customization and cannot be published externally; plugins are suitable for team projects, enabling reuse of the same integrations by many employees and can be shared within organizations or on the market.
Currently, the Codex plugin market already includes commonly used tools like Slack and Figma, and developers will be able to add their favorite plugins to the official directory in the future. Codex has grown significantly over the past few months—last month, over 1 million developers used it, and usage has doubled since the launch of GPT-5.2-Codex.
