OpenAI launches GPT-5.6 and ChatGPT Work agent

OpenAI has released the GPT-5.6 series of AI models and launched a new agent called ChatGPT Work, powered by GPT-5.6, designed to handle long, multi-step office tasks. The agent aims to boost productivity in areas like sales and finance.

OpenAI revealed that its coding assistant Codex now has over 5 million weekly users. Originally for developers, over 1 million people now use it for non-software tasks, showing its reach into broader office work.

In internal tests, nearly 100% of OpenAI teams, including finance and sales, use ChatGPT Work and Codex. In sales, tasks that took weeks can now turn into proofs of concept within 24 hours. In finance, ChatGPT Work slashes month-end closing and forecasting from days to hours.

ChatGPT Work is available now for Pro, Enterprise, and Edu users on web and mobile. Plus and Business users will get access in the coming days.
