OpenAI launches new macOS ChatGPT app with Codex and Chat features

OpenAI has launched a new ChatGPT desktop app for macOS, combining Codex and ChatGPT into one experience to boost AI coding and reach more users beyond developers. The app has three parts: Chat, ChatGPT Work, and Codex. Users can view conversation history and projects in the sidebar, with syncing across web, mobile, and desktop.

The update keeps existing Codex tasks and projects, and users can choose the Codex app icon in settings. OpenAI product lead Tibo Sottiaux said the team made adjustments based on feedback to improve syncing and mode switching. Codex mode stays the same, focusing on what it does best in coding.

OpenAI will keep fixing small issues and improving performance, reliability, and efficiency. This update makes ChatGPT more useful and user-friendly on desktop.
