OpenAI May Launch Always-On AI Assistant 'O' at DevDay

Alexey Shabanov, a person familiar with the matter, says OpenAI is about to launch an always-on AI assistant codenamed 'O'. It is expected to appear at OpenAI DevDay on September 29.

Clues have already shown up in ChatGPT's configuration files, including setting 'O' as a display name and configuring a '-o' email suffix. Based on these clues, the agent is expected to run continuously beyond regular chat and may have its own identity.

The project may be related to 'Aeon'. Earlier reports said Aeon is the name used for OpenAI's always-on agent project. It is still unclear what tasks it supports, what permissions it has, and whether it offers scheduled tasks, memory, or when it will open.

There were also rumors that OpenAI is studying a donut-shaped hardware device. If the two projects are connected, the single-letter codename could be an interesting pun.
