OpenAI president admits new ChatGPT desktop app is messy, plans to streamline by 2026
Greg Brockman, co-founder and president of OpenAI, admitted the new ChatGPT desktop app interface has confused users, making it hard for some to find chat history. The app merged ChatGPT and Codex features in July, including Chat, Work, and Codex sections.
Brockman said the design is a "progressive step" and OpenAI wanted to use a "zero tabs" design but needed feedback first. He predicted that by the end of 2026, the desktop app will no longer have a Work tab, and its features will be integrated into ChatGPT.
After the merger, Codex users jumped from 5 million to 10 million. Brockman stressed there's still huge value to unlock in AI, aiming to bring AI agents to the mass consumer market.
