OpenAI Reopens $200 ChatGPT Pro Subscription With New Usage Rules
OpenAI Chief Product Officer Tibo announced that the $200 per month ChatGPT Pro subscription will reopen to new users tomorrow, with changes to how usage is calculated for that tier. The signups were paused on September 11 due to surging compute demand from GPT-6 Astra.
Under the new rules, the API-equivalent value of the $200 Pro subscription is nearly double what it was before. OpenAI will not bring back the previous 5-hour usage limit, keeping only a weekly quota so users can concentrate usage when needed.
OpenAI says it will keep lowering API prices as model efficiency improves. It recently cut API prices for the newly released GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna by about 50%, aiming to narrow the value gap between subscriptions and pay-as-you-go API access.
OpenAI also teased that more features not counted toward usage will be added to Pro tomorrow, without revealing details.
