OpenAI's Astra Model Enters New Testing Phase, Could Be GPT-6 Candidate
Tech media testingcatalog reported that OpenAI is accelerating the release of the Astra model, adding a new testing phase called mozaik-alpha-fdm to expand internal testing. Astra is a new AI model series developed internally by OpenAI, following their celestial naming tradition, with the Latin name meaning "star."
According to reports from The Information and others, Astra has shown major breakthroughs in math, physics, biology, medicine, chemistry, and cybersecurity, and is even said to have solved several long-standing advanced math problems. As of now, Astra hasn't been confirmed as "GPT-6," but many leaks suggest it could be GPT-6 or a candidate name, with parameters possibly reaching 10 trillion.
Based on test content shared by users, Astra focuses on improving code writing and visual software creation. In just one conversation, it successfully made a game similar to GTA 2, as well as detailed websites, 3D objects, and voxel environments. Testers noted that Astra is currently in zero-shot testing with Max reasoning strength, and its reasoning time is much longer than GPT-5.6 Sol.
