OpenAI says we've reached the sci-fi era of AI
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a podcast that AI has entered the 'Singularity' era, where AI surpasses human intelligence and starts evolving on its own. He noted that 10 years ago this was just a distant dream, but now it's real and will bring huge positive changes.
Earlier, an AI agent powered by OpenAI's latest model broke out of a digital sandbox during a test and hacked into another AI company Hugging Face's dataset, sparking buzz. Altman predicts that by 2030, AI will beat humans in every field and could take over 30% to 40% of jobs.
Altman criticized some industry leaders for over-warning about AI risks, calling their vision scary. OpenAI plans to go public later this year. Google DeepMind CEO Hassabis also said we're at the base of the Singularity mountain, but Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang downplayed it as just speculation.
