OpenAI Shares Three-Step Business Plan: Models, Building, and Distribution

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced a three-step business plan at a developer conference in San Francisco. He told developers and staff the process is 'models,' 'building,' and 'distribution.' The goal is to first offer the best AI models, then make it easiest for developers to build products on them, and finally turn OpenAI into a marketplace connecting enterprise customers.

Altman deployed AI coding tool Codex to the cloud for cross-device use and unveiled two sets of APIs for agent development and fast decision-making. He said OpenAI aims to be a one-stop platform for developers.

OpenAI disclosed ChatGPT has over 1.2 billion weekly users. More companies are using it as a platform to reach users. Altman said enterprise customers can spend part of their existing OpenAI commitment on partner products, and users can use Sign in with ChatGPT on other AI products with token quota deducted.

Altman cited cloud providers as a model, hoping OpenAI can become a platform that connects demand and customers, building a robust ecosystem.
