OpenAI spent $34 billion last year, lost $39 billion
According to the Financial Times, OpenAI spent a total of $34 billion last year. R&D costs were about $19 billion, sales and marketing were $6 billion, and infrastructure and operations were $9 billion.
OpenAI's revenue was $13 billion last year, but it lost $39 billion. Experts say the big losses come from buying AI chips, building data centers, and hiring top talent.
To get ready for its IPO this year, OpenAI is cutting costs by running more efficiently, slowing R&D spending, and dropping non-core projects.
