OpenAI updates ChatGPT, refuses to mimic living authors
OpenAI recently updated ChatGPT. When users ask the AI to mimic the style of a living author, ChatGPT now directly refuses. For example, when asked to write like Stephen King, it says it can't fully replicate his style but can create original content based on similar themes.
Tests show ChatGPT can't rewrite The Odyssey in Stephen King's style or mimic author Amy Tan. However, it can still rewrite works using King's narrative style, unease, and atmosphere. For long-dead authors like Charles Dickens, Hemingway, and Shakespeare, ChatGPT still accepts such requests.
While US copyright law only protects specific word expressions, not abstract writing styles, OpenAI clearly wants to reduce legal risks.
