OpenAI upgrades ChatGPT desktop app with voice mode for multitasking
OpenAI has released an update for its ChatGPT desktop app, introducing ChatGPT Voice mode powered by the GPT-Live model. The app now integrates with Codex, allowing users to start, check, or adjust tasks via voice in chat, work, and coding sections, enabling multitasking.
GPT-Live is a full-duplex voice model that can listen and speak simultaneously, making conversations feel more human. Users can launch multiple workflows from a single conversation, with tasks running in the background. For example, while planning a business trip, ChatGPT can check your calendar, review flight changes, and prepare meeting notes.
OpenAI says this move is part of its vision for an AI that can handle multiple tasks just by you speaking your needs. Since adding voice recognition in 2024, the company has been pushing voice tech further, and this version makes AI chats smoother and more natural.
