OpenAI Upgrades Mac Version of Codex: Can Control Desktop Apps, Adds 90+ Plugins to Advance Super App Layout
OpenAI recently updated its Codex AI programming assistant, adding Mac desktop app operation capabilities, supporting multi-agent parallel running and long-term task execution. This update gives Codex an independent cursor, allowing it to view screen content, click interface elements, input text, and directly control desktop apps to complete tasks like testing and front-end iteration—multiple agents run in parallel without interfering with the user's work.
Codex now has a memory function to save user preferences and workflows, can resume tasks after pausing, and autonomously schedule future tasks for continuous progress. It integrates the gpt-image-1.5 model to generate concept maps and prototypes, supports GitHub comment processing, and PDF/spreadsheet preview. The plugin ecosystem has expanded with over 90 new plugins to enhance context acquisition and execution capabilities; it will also gain full browser operation capabilities in the future.
