OpenAI Urges Mac Users to Update ChatGPT App Due to TanStack Supply Chain Attack
The open-source library TanStack was hit by a supply chain attack, affecting OpenAI's Mac version of the ChatGPT desktop app. OpenAI officially requires users to complete a mandatory update by June 12; otherwise, older versions will not open.
The attack affected two of OpenAI's employee devices, with hackers stealing some credential materials, but no core code or user data was obtained. Since the relevant code had the ability to sign app certificates, OpenAI has revoked existing certificates and blocked apps signed with old certificates from running.
Regular Mac users should pay attention to update prompts and upgrade in time. iOS and Windows versions are not affected and no action is needed. OpenAI emphasizes that its systems were not breached and is continuously monitoring and providing additional guidance.
