Oriental Computing launches world's first software-defined 3D chip DF1000
Oriental Computing launched its first flagship chip DF1000 in Shanghai. It's the world's first software-defined 3D chip for near-memory computing. The chip uses a mix of software-defined tech and 3D stacking to solve key problems in China's high-end chip development.
The DF1000 delivers 520TFLOPS@BF16 on a 14nm process. It uses software-defined tech to separate hardware from software and allow dynamic changes. VP Guo Wei says the chip focuses on core computing innovation and doesn't rely on advanced overseas manufacturing, using China's own supply chain instead.
The software-defined chip tech comes from Tsinghua University and has been around for 20 years. It lets hardware adapt quickly to software changes, keeping high performance and low power while staying programmable. Oriental Computing was founded in May 2024, based in Shanghai Zhangjiang, with over 500 employees.
