Perplexity Computer Adds On-Device Mode on Mac
Perplexity Computer for Mac has rolled out a new on-device mode. AI models and agents can now run completely on the device and handle tasks without internet access, reducing reliance on the cloud.
In this mode, Computer can handle task planning, reasoning, and file processing. Files are only uploaded to the cloud after user approval. With permission, it can also access local files and work together with apps like Notes, Messages, Mail, and Numbers.
The feature is open to Perplexity Pro, Max, and Enterprise subscribers. It launches with two on-device modes, Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro, and requires at least an Apple chip with 36GB of unified memory.
