Perplexity Computer will split tasks between local and cloud AI automatically
Perplexity announced a July update for its AI agent system, Perplexity Computer, adding hybrid AI scheduling. The system, launched in February, aims to be a personal team of AI agents. The new feature will automatically split tasks: sensitive ones like financial or health data stay on your device, while complex reasoning and content generation go to cloud models. Users don't need to choose 'local' or 'cloud' manually—a small local model first checks data sensitivity, then coordinates with the cloud for results. Perplexity says real tasks often mix privacy checks and complex generation, so hybrid scheduling balances security and performance. This move aims to make AI assistants more practical while protecting user data.
