Perplexity Officially Launches Personal Computer, an AI Assistant for Mac with Deep Local Ecosystem Integration
For Mac users, getting AI assistants to handle local files or interact with native apps (like organizing messy download folders or syncing to-do lists) is often a pain point—traditional cloud-based AI assistants can't do this well.
Perplexity recently pushed Personal Computer, an AI assistant for Mac, to Max subscribers. It can deeply access the Mac file system and native apps, support text and voice interaction, and be awakened by pressing both left and right Command keys.
Unlike cloud assistants, it can recognize currently active apps and give quick operation suggestions. It also uses over 20 cutting-edge models to form an agent team for complex tasks, such as comparing local files with online info or completing to-do items.
It supports macOS 14 and above; Mac mini is recommended for 24/7 operation. Max subscribers can use it now (waitlist users first), while Pro users can't yet. All operations are visible, auditable, and reversible for security.
