Plastic surgeons worry about 'AI face' trend, perfect looks can't be achieved with surgery
Dr. Nora Nugent, president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, says more patients are bringing AI-enhanced selfies to consultations, thinking surgery can achieve the same results. These 'AI faces' often have poreless skin, sharp cheekbones, and perfectly symmetrical features, but surgeons say operations can't match the pixel-level precision of AI.
London plastic surgeon Alex Karidis warns that AI-generated images have a strong psychological impact. When people stare at their 'AI-enhanced' version for too long, their brain starts seeing it as the ideal self, 'and that image stays in your head.' Doctors also note that 'AI faces' follow a template: women get V-shaped faces and heart-shaped features, while men get wider jaws and lower brows.
Surgeons stress that real-world results are never guaranteed due to differences in healing and bone structure. Nugent says, 'Surgery can't do everything.' Doctors also worry that some 'miracle makeover' videos on social media might be AI-generated, with one video even showing six fingers on a hand.
