Record Labels Want Low-Quality AI Music Off the Charts
Universal Music, Sony Music, and Warner Music are pushing to keep low-quality AI songs off the charts. They say lots of AI-made music on streaming platforms is trained on artists' work without permission.
The new rule says a song must be 'mostly made by humans' to chart. Songs with just a little AI help can still qualify, but they must follow AI service rules, use legal training data, and not look like chart manipulation. What counts as 'mostly human' is still unclear.
The IFPI supports this, but no chart organization has adopted it yet. Earlier, there was a plan to label AI songs, but this new one is stricter.
