Robot 'Lightning' breaks 100m world record at 9.32 seconds
The second World Humanoid Robot Games opened in Beijing on August 22. During the sprint event prep, the robot 'Lightning' from Honor team completed the 100m test in 9.32 seconds, hitting a top speed of 14.5 m/s, breaking the human world record of 9.58 set by Usain Bolt in 2009. The games feature 50 events, and most require full autonomy, except the 100m and 400m obstacle races.
'Lightning' will compete in the 100m, 400m (large group), and 1500m events. In April this year, it won a half marathon in 50:26, also a record. For this event, the team upgraded its legs for longer strides and improved joint torque. It uses pure vision for the 100m and radar for the 400m.
'Lightning' has a liquid cooling system developed by Honor, and its body is co-built with Lens Technology. These technologies come from Honor's Magic series and will be applied to the upcoming Magic9 phones.
